Much like a homonym, justice means different things to different individuals. Social Justice, Retributive Justice, Restorative Justice, Procedural Justice, Distributive Justice, Divine Justice—the idea of justice is a complex and ongoing conversation, as different groups and individuals continue to debate what it means to be fair and just in different contexts.
This conference brought together many voices to inform how we may think of justice raising many thought provoking questions. The conference debated if justice were only to be found in the hands of law, if there could be a sense of hospitality in justice, where ethics lies when we talk about justice, the space that lies between social and political justice and the possibility of looking at a species-wide justice. Featuring lectures by renowned academics, lawyers, poets and activists, the conference discussed how difference could be accommodated in the search for justice.
