After a two-year hiatus in lieu of the COVID pandemic, the History for Peace annual conference, The Idea of Democracy, reconvened at the Tollygunge Club, Calcutta on August 4, 5 and 6, 2022. The conference responded to the urgent need of the times—a discussion of democracy, emphasising the subject's pedagogy in the high school social science classroom. This journal is a compilation of the lectures delivered at the conference that reflect the diverse perspectives and approaches through which each speaker understands and experiences democracy in their private and public lives.
