About the Event

In India, majoritarian attempts to deny our freedoms of expression and dissent have been met with resistance over decades. Yet today we see retaliation to dissent as never before. For Palestinians, whose fundamental rights to life and liberty are denied by the Israeli state machinery, voicing their resistance in the face of mounting violence is definitive of what they often assert: to exist is to resist. A platform to exchange ideas and thoughts from India and Palestine on building resistance and defending the right to freedom of expression in the face of intolerance is the beginning of shared journey.

Mahmoud Nawaja'a, General Coordinator of the Palestinian National Committee for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, will talk about defending fundamental freedoms in a way that is creative and lasting and share with us his experiences of organizing grassroots struggles in Palestine.
